All doors in Puerto Rico look the same to these two Jersey guys.

All doors in Puerto Rico look the same to these two Jersey guys.

My husband Mike, typically an ultra precise, always-right kind of guy, is experiencing what I can only term “door confusion”; no matter how many times he faces the same pair of numbered condo doors that share a common main entrance, he attempts to unlock and enter the condo that isn’t ours. It happened four times in a mere 24 hours. Mike says that our condo door is supposed to be the one on the left. I know, based on the number, that it’s the one on the right. Two years ago, when we stayed at the Hyatt Residence Club Hacienda Del Mar, our condo door was the one on the left. This year, though, our condo door is on the right. But Mike’s brain just won’t adjust to the change. He even muttered that the doors have it wrong. It’s a good thing my sister Cindy and her husband Bid are staying in the condo on the left. When they hear the rattling they know it’s only Mike, their door-challenged brother-in-law.

Our condo is through the door o the right, but Mike keeps trying to unlock and enter the door on the left.

My brother-in-law Bid has door issues of his own. Last night he locked himself out of his condo on the way to the bathroom.

Does this doorknob sans any locks look reotely like...

Does this simple doorknob sans locks look or feel remotely like…

Instead of getting out of bed,  heading to the right, turning a simple doorknob and walking into the bathroom, Bid turned left, unlocked a deadbolt, slid a bar lock and walked out into the common condo entrance. The door locked automatically behind him. So he was on the wrong side of the locked door. And the toilet he sought.

look or feel romotely like this door?

…this one? The answer is apparently “yes” if you have to pee badly enough.

He tried to push the locked condo door open. He rattled the doorknob. But it was locked tight. So Bid opened the exterior security door and started to walk out, thinking he’d find a near-by toilet somewhere. At the last second Bid realized that if he let that door close behind himself that he’d be well and truly locked out with no hope of getting back in. So he jumped back inside the entryway. Bid’s overwhelming need was to pee. So he knocked on his own door. Then he knocked again. Thankfully, Cindy heard him and unlocked the door. He raced by her and into the bathroom. Saved by his wife!
